1pic1thoughtinAug – August 12

Today was meant to be a good day – a productive day. Hubby has taken time off so we could catch up on things and I had this great plan in my head of what I would do with my alone time and where we would go during the weekend. Well life happened and now I’m stuck at home listening to hubby play games – not happy Jan :(

This is where I would rather be today:

I love cows – that is all.

I used Emmanuel Mollois’ recipe to make these croissants for the family and I was pleased with the way they turned out – I put them all in the oven at once which I now know not to do because my oven burns the top tray. I thought I would save time with the kids running around etc …

For the times you just feel like a croissant but can’t get to the shop and do not wish to spend hours then just use puff pastry and follow what this lady suggests:

You can put cheese inside before baking and they turn out like cheese puffs.

Baking bread

After watching this on TV with Miss 4, we decided we would make bread just like Emily Yeung.

And here is our version:

It was delicious fresh out of the oven. If only we all had time to make our own bread the good old fashion way all the time.

Transliteracy

What does transliteracy mean to me??
#andypoll: What does transliteracy mean to you? GO. Answer, RT, & check out the LITA interest group http://bit.ly/ciqgDx – tweeted by @wawoodworth

Am I transliterate? Hmmm let’s see…
I get woken up by the radio alarm clock and I keep listening to whatever is on until I snap out of my “don’t want to get out of bed” phase. First thing I do when I finally wake up is reach for my phone which has the time, the weather, my emails, twitter, facebook, have a quick turn at words with friends and have a look at the apps I can be bothered looking at depending on what suits on the day.

If staying home:

Then I get to read to my kids and watch kids tv with them which is highly interactive and lots of fun. I strongly recommend singing along. If time to cook something then I’m using my Jamie Oliver 20 minute recipes app or my 4 ingredients app on my phone or go online to aliveandcooking website for recipe ideas.

When kids are napping, I could take the opportunity to read my book. Towards the end of the day I get to read stories to the kids again and or play some online kids games.

If going to work:
I listen to the car radio or an audio book, catch up with staff once I get to the library, emails, twitter, facebook, library blogs, write minutes and notes in meetings, library staff wiki, reply to online and in person customer requests.

End of day:

Winding down can mean watching tv, reading one of my fashion magazines like my favorite Marie Claire, reading a book or an ebook, listening to my music on my iPod nano, blog or chat online with friends.

So reading and writing across various media platforms is predominantly what I do all day. In fact some days there is so much information to assimilate through reading and regurgitate through writing that I must filter through what is important and what can be ignored for my own sanity’s sake. And it isn’t only reading and writing, listening plays a huge part … Listening to the news, to podcasts and so on! Transliteracy to me is being able to embrace all platforms in which information can be obtained and the way in which we use these tools to better ourselves.
